1. Why doesn't Ixquick remember the preferences that I saved in "My Settings"?
Your preferences are stored within your own Web browser in a small data file called a 'cookie'. If your browser's ability to store cookies has been disabled, then your preferences will be lost each time you restart your browser.

You can use the 'Help' feature of your browser to find out how to allow cookies to be stored.
(Ixquick's cookies are anonymous and absolutely safe to use.)

If your Ixquick settings are still lost after re-starting your browser, your browser's privacy preferences may need to be adjusted. In case you have set your browser preferences to delete all Cookies after your browser is shut down, there is an option available to make an exception for Ixquick's preferences cookie by inserting "ixquick.com" - [WITHOUT the www] - usually under the Privacy tab.

It is also possible you have installed some third-party application(s) which clear(s)/delete(s) your browser history, cache including cookie information. We know third-party applications such as CCleaner, System Mechanic etc. delete various files (including temporary files) and browsing information during their "system cleanup" run. These softwares provide several configuration options to control various functionalities.

Please note some browsers have a "delete data" feature (clears/deletes data on every exit) which deletes browsing data, history as well as "cookies information".It is possible you have "checked" this option (which is available in IE8 under "General" tab, browsing history). Moreover, with release of IE7, the add-ons support has been added in IE7 & IE8. There are numerous third party add- ons (such as Family Watch Bar, Paper Shredder etc.) which delete browsing data and cookie information automatically.

2. Is there a charge to use Ixquick? And how does Ixquick generate its income?
Using Ixquick is completely free.
We display up to three relevant sponsored search results on top of the result page (and mostly two near the bottom)- clearly indicated by a contrasting background color. That's where our income comes from. Very important is that - contrary to other search engines - Ixquick does NOT share any privacy sensitive user data (IP address) with the provider of these ads, safeguarding your privacy.

3. How do I add Ixquick to my browser?
The Ixquick Plugin makes it possible to search directly from the search box in your browser, without the need to install a toolbar.

You can find the Ixquick Plugin, including instructions for installation, at:
http://ixquick.com/eng/download-ixquick-plugin.html

4. Ixquick only seems to show a small portion of the total number of results it finds. How can I access the other results that are not shown by Ixquick?
At Ixquick, we believe in quality over quantity—our goal is to provide you with the most relevant results. These results are the ones that many different search engines, using different methods, have agreed are important.
We have chosen these results out of a much larger pool of "matching results", most of which are unlikely to be very relevant. Ixquick usually provides some 50-70 relevant results, more than enough for most searches.

5. Is it possible to make the URLs on the result pages stand out more?
Yes. Click on the light bulb in the upper right-hand corner of the screen until a white homepage appears. The accompanying results page will show the URLs in a more prominent green.

6. Why can't I find a particular country in the Ixquick's International Phone Directory?
Ixquick's International Phone Directory is currently available for 32 countries. We are in the process of adding new countries; this takes time because we are carefully selecting national phone directories that provide consistent, reliable results.

7. Is it possible to change the design of the Ixquick home page?
Yes it is! In the upper right-hand corner of the Ixquick homepage, there is a small light bulb. Click on this light bulb to see four different home page designs. You can then visit "My Settings" to save your favorite design for your next visit to Ixquick.

8. How can I remove my own listing from the International Phone Directory?
Visit http://ixquick.com/do/ipd_optout.pl?lui=english and fill out the form there in as much detail as possible. More detail will help us remove your listing more quickly.

9. How can I register my website with Ixquick?
Ixquick is a metasearch engine. We search many other search engines and combine the results that they produce. The more search engines that rank your website highly for a specific search term, the higher your ranking for that term will be on Ixquick.

Because we do not manipulate the results of this process in any way, you cannot register your site with Ixquick.
